15 Day Uganda Classic Safari

Visit all highlights of Uganda! Explore the abundant wildlife in Murchison Falls and Queen Elizabeth National Park, and track the chimpanzees and gorillas in Uganda’s tropical rainforests. Follow the Batwa Trail and discover one of the most scenic lakes by traditional canoe in the “Gorilla Highlands”.

Day by day itinerary

Day 1: Arrival

You will be welcomed by a representative of Great Lakes Safaris who will transfer you to your Guest House in Entebbe.

Overnight at Karibu Guest House - Standard Room (BB)

Just 10 minutes from Entebbe Airport, Karibu is a boutique hotel set in a former presidential residence. Catering to a small number of guests at any one time, it offers a high level of personalized service, quality food, 24-hour reception, relaxing swimming pool and a comfortable sleep. Whether your visit to Entebbe is for business or pleasure, you’ll feel at home while at Karibu.

Day 2: Entebbe – Murchison Falls National Park. Approx. 350km/5-6hrs drive

We will depart for the most beautiful protected area in Uganda: Murchison Falls National Park. Enjoy a lunch stop in Masindi before entering the park. We will visit the magnificent falls where the mighty Nile is forced into a seven-meter crevice and thunders 45 meters below in a series of cascades. This spectacular scenery can be viewed from different points at the baler’s summit.

Dinner and overnight at Twiga Safari Lodge - Cottage (B-L-D)

The lodge provides comfortable accommodation in a serene, relaxing environment where guests can see monkeys and various birds roaming freely. Twiga Safari Lodge offers scenic views of Uganda’s wildlife lounging in the river during the day and grazing around the lodge at night.

Day 3: Murchison Falls National Park

After an early breakfast, you will enjoy a half-day game drive on the northern bank of the Nile, escorted by a ranger. Wildlife includes elephants, Rothschild giraffes, Jackson hartebeest, lions, oribis, waterbucks, and various savannah woodland birds. After lunch, embark on a Nile cruise for close-up game viewing. Watch hippos bathe, elephants drink, and crocodiles bask on the shores.

Dinner and overnight at Twiga Safari Lodge - Cottage (B-L-D)

Day 4: Murchison Falls – Kibale Forest National Park. Approx. 400km/7-8hrs drive

Depart Murchison Falls and head towards Fort Portal. This scenic eight-hour drive passes small African villages and banana plantations. Fort Portal is nestled in the shadow of the Rwenzori Mountains and is known for its tea plantations.

Dinner and overnight at Turaco Treetops - Luxury Room (B-L-D)

Turaco Treetops features 8 luxury cottages set in secluded spots within the jungle. The spacious cottages have large windows and wooden decks overlooking Kibale Forest, blending modern comforts with an African aesthetic using wood and natural materials. Guests might spot Great Blue Turacos or Black and White Colobus Monkeys in the area. Budget travelers can opt for the Chimps' House, a cozy budget cottage located in the forest, accommodating up to two people.

Day 5: Rwenzori Foothill Hike

This morning, transfer to the Rwenzori National Park gate for a briefing. Choose between a full-day hike or a community foothill walk.

Day 6: Chimp Trekking & Bigodi Swamp

Today, experience sensational chimp tracking in Kibale Forest, home to the highest concentration of primates in East Africa. After a pre-tracking briefing, begin your hike to follow the footsteps of a large, habituated chimpanzee family. You'll see a variety of primates, including Black-billed Turacos, Pied Hornbills, and Blue-breasted Kingfishers. The forest is home to various plant species and is a haven for birdwatchers.

Day 7: Kibale Forest – Queen Elizabeth National Park. Approx. 150km/3hrs drive

After breakfast, you’ll head towards Queen Elizabeth National Park, one of Uganda’s most popular wildlife destinations. On arrival, enjoy a game drive through the park, spotting various wildlife such as lions, elephants, buffaloes, and antelopes. The park’s varied ecosystems, from savannah to wetland, are home to over 600 bird species, including the famous African fish eagle.

Day 8: Queen Elizabeth National Park – Ishasha Sector

Spend the morning driving to the Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park. This area is famous for its tree-climbing lions, and you'll have the chance to see these remarkable creatures resting in the fig trees. After your game drive, enjoy a relaxing afternoon at your lodge with views over the savannah.

Overnight at Ishasha Wilderness Camp – Tent (B-L-D)

Day 9: Ishasha – Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. Approx. 90km/2-3hrs drive

After breakfast, journey to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, a UNESCO World Heritage site and the home of the endangered mountain gorillas. Upon arrival, you’ll receive a briefing for your gorilla trekking experience, which is one of the highlights of your safari.

Day 10: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

Today is dedicated to your gorilla trekking adventure. After an early breakfast, meet your ranger guide and trek through the dense forest in search of the mountain gorillas. Once you find them, you’ll have an hour to observe and photograph these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat. This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience!

Overnight at Buhoma Lodge – Luxury Room (B-L-D)

Day 11: Bwindi – Lake Bunyonyi. Approx. 2-3hrs drive

After breakfast, head to Lake Bunyonyi, a serene and picturesque lake surrounded by lush hills. The lake is known for its peaceful atmosphere and beautiful scenery, making it a perfect place to relax after the trek. You can enjoy a boat ride or simply unwind and enjoy the views.

Day 12: Lake Bunyonyi – Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. Approx. 3-4hrs drive

Today, travel to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, another incredible gorilla trekking destination in Uganda. This park, located in the southwestern corner of Uganda, is part of the Virunga Mountain Range and offers a chance to trek not only gorillas but also golden monkeys.

Day 13: Golden Monkey Trekking in Mgahinga

Spend the day trekking the elusive golden monkeys in Mgahinga. These small, vibrant primates live in the bamboo forests of the Virunga Mountains, and trekking them is a unique experience in Uganda. You’ll also have the chance to learn about the local community and their conservation efforts for these rare monkeys.

Overnight at Mount Gahinga Lodge – Standard Room (B-L-D)

Day 14: Mgahinga – Lake Mburo National Park. Approx. 6-7hrs drive

Drive towards Lake Mburo National Park, known for its beautiful scenery and diverse wildlife. Lake Mburo is one of Uganda's smallest national parks but offers an excellent opportunity to see animals like zebras, impalas, and elands. Enjoy an afternoon boat cruise on Lake Mburo.

Overnight at Mihingo Lodge – Luxury Room (B-L-D)

Day 15: Lake Mburo – Entebbe. Approx. 4-5hrs drive

On the final day of your safari, travel back to Entebbe. Depending on your flight time, you may have the opportunity to visit the Uganda Wildlife Education Center or enjoy a relaxing afternoon in Entebbe before your departure.
